Presidential Election 2012

I'm sure you're probably tired of your Twitter, Facebook, and Blogger feeds being bombarded with politically minded jargon . . . but just maybe calm down for a second.  It'll be over in like, eight hours.

This post isn't about who I'm voting for, or even what I'm voting for.  This post has nothing to do with who is right and who is wrong. In the end, we surely will not reach a consensus.  There will be people who will be hurt and upset regardless of the outcome of the Presidential Election.  Politics are are personal and often times emotional.  Different issues resonate differently for each person.  Political issues aside, what concerns me most about this election is the expressions of hate I have seen toward each of the candidates.

Why so much anger?  Why so much disrespect?  I have a hard time warping my head around the concept of people hating someone because they believe something different. Honestly, it seems like a giant step backward for our country.

The other day, a girl I follow on Twitter posted:

"If you are a woman and voting for Mitt Romney, you are ignorant and seriously lack self-esteem."

in that same feed, another person posted:

"If you like Obama, you hate America."

I am grateful for free speech and the opportunities of self expression it provides, I really am.  I just feel like there is a serious lack of respect between political parties right now.  Over the past four years, I have heard a lot of hateful things said about our current president.  Before that, terrible things were said about President Bush.  Tomorrow, no matter who wins, hateful things will be said about that person.  I don't understand it.  It's not like someone goes into office thinking "I'm going to screw the nation over."  I think in their heart of hearts, presidents' past have good intentions.  While these intentions might not always yield successful results, they are often times doing the best they can.  We don't have to necessarily grovel at the feet of our leaders, but I do think we need to respect them.

Whoever wins tonight will have my respect.  I might not agree with everything either party says or plans on . . . but I can honestly say that I don't hate either candidate.  And I sincerely hope that I am not alone in this.

You're so right :( it's really sad actually. All day I've had a woman's comment stuck in my head "Females voting for Mitt Romney disgust me." Those kind of statements are shocking! Is hatred so easy that you don't have to even know a person to hate, or be disgusted by them?

I've missed your hottness. I totally agree with this. I've always thought it's so sad how politics work! I think it's awful that they "have" to tear down the other to advance themselves. I think Romney did a respectful job for the most part, but I just think its sad to begin with. Also, the great thing about America is that not ALL power will ever lie with the president. I know some people are so darn paranoid the world is ending if a certain person wins. We have tons of great leaders guiding our nation and for that I'm so grateful.

p.s. I can't help it. It's super ironic that someone said that females voting for romney have no self esteem. He's pro life! He respects women and their bodies!!!!

I completely agree. People are being so rude on both sides. But somehow, it's all going to be okay.

My favorite is how SOMEONE (obviously the person you do NOT want to win) is deliberately running the country into the ground/back to the communists/ eternal debt/etc. etc. etc. - and then when you mention that this person is also a child of God, you get "well, so is Satan!" People, let's try to act like grown-ups for a change. Thanks for your comments!
